La Rijana Beach
Accessed via a stepped path running down through coastal cliffs, Playa La Rijana is made up of a small stretch of dark – almost grey – sand and pebbles roughly 250 by 50 metres in size. Otherwise entirely enclosed by the cliffs that surround it and hold the road, its attractive situation among rocky coastline offers a feeling of seclusion.
Located between the small towns of Calahonda and Castell del Ferro, Playa La Rijana is largely used by residents local to the area, who reach the beach from the secondary N-340 road.
South facing, the waters immediately off Playa La Rijana are dotted with relatively large rocks. Further out, it’s not uncommon for scuba divers to sink beneath the waves here, or to see sports fishermen tackling its variety of marine life. There are few facilities, limited to a refreshments stall and portable toilets open during the summer months.
