Long Beach, Nahant
Long Beach in Nahant is a good-sized stretch of sand offering a quiet coastal escape just to the north of Boston. This mile-long barrier beach, also known as just Nahant Beach, is part of Nahant Beach Reservation and is popular for walking, swimming, and sunbathing. Its proximity to the city makes it an accessible getaway while still feeling fairly remote and unspoiled.
The beach features soft, light-coloured sand and gentle waves, making it ideal for families and swimmers. During low tide, the shoreline expands, revealing tidal pools and sandbars perfect for exploring. The calm waters also attract paddleboarders and kayakers, while surfers enjoy the occasional swells.
A paved promenade runs along part of the shoreline, offering a great place for walking, jogging, or just taking in the ocean breeze. If you head to the more protected areas of the beach, you may spot shorebirds such as piping plovers and terns.
