Koka Beach
There is little argument that Koka beach is the best on the island of Flores. This is partly because this Indonesian island is still somewhat off the tourist radar so not many people are in a position to argue about it! On the other hand it really would take somewhere very special to trump this beautiful sandy beach.
Koka beach is made up of two little bays separated by a high rocky headland at the end of a sandbar. Despite looking like a mirror image of each other, the western bay often has waves whilst the eastern is calm. If you want to get a spectacular overview of the beach then make the climb up the headland.
Both coves have the same powdery white sand, crystal clear turquoise water and backdrop of coconut palm with verdant hills beyond. You should be fine to swim and snorkel, although be aware of the conditions.
Being off the beaten track means Koka beach never gets busy but it does take a bit of effort to get to. There isn’t a lot here beside the beach, but you should be able to find somewhere to eat and a place to stay.
