Fan Shell Beach
Fan Shell Beach is a picturesque little stretch of coastline along the famous 17-Mile Drive in Pebble Beach. With its rugged beauty, soft white sand, and stunning ocean views, this beach is a favourite stop for visitors exploring the Monterey Peninsula.
During spring and early summer, the beach is a key nesting site for Brandt’s cormorants, making it an excellent location for birdwatching. The surrounding rocks and tide pools are home to a host of marine life, including sea anemones, crabs, and starfish, adding to the area’s natural appeal. Fan Shell beach is also a popular spot for photographers, with its ever-changing light, crashing Pacific waves, and distant views of Cypress Point creating the perfect backdrop.
While swimming is not advised due to strong currents and and often rough surf, the beach is perfect for a relaxing walk or picnic. Nearby pull-offs along 17-Mile Drive provide plenty of opportunities to take in the coastal scenery. Whether you’re exploring the famous Lone Cypress or heading toward Spanish Bay, Fan Shell Beach makes a great stop on this iconic route.
